I went to a meeting the other day that a few dozen of executives were all invited to attend. Not mandatory of course, only a half dozen showed up for the meeting. I thought to myself, “there is a lot of wonderful training that was shared and if only the rest of the invited showed up, they wouldn’t have their current struggles”. The point here; showing up could possibly provide you with the necessary tools or information needed to you as a person or your business over whatever slumps that it might be facing. It is like a job, you cannot expect to find a job if you don’t pass out your resume or fill out and submit applications. You are probably not going to win a marathon if you don’t show up for the race. You have to show up first and then run only giving your best. Half of winning is showing up.

Twitter: the most popular word in the entire English Dictionary of 2009. If you notice, the is a little feature that says “direct message”. In most cases, these messages are just auto reply’s. Some Twitter users will actually send you a personal message that you should be listening to.

Take the opportunity to actually stop and connect with your following. Cultivate a relationship with your following. Listen to what they are saying. Offer help to extend the same value by finding out how you can help them be successful. There is a unique opportunity here to reach out and build your network if you work.

In sales we all hear objections or better said, areas of concern. As retail sales professionals we can tell you that there are less areas of concerns than you would think. I personally used to think that there were thousands of areas of concerns and I was wrong. The typical areas of concerns that you might have heard:

“I need to consult with my business partner…”
“We want to think about it a little more…”
“We have that area covered in terms of…”
“We are just not interested…”
“My program is working just fine….”

We are so very excited to see the results that we are getting with social media. Finally, businesses can maximize their brand exposure, compete with the big dogs sort of speak, and reduce expenses from traditional media that just no longer works. Google analytics prove that customers are online and the websites that are linked to the analytical reporting are showing the numbers in a big way.

Just a thought: When Bill Gates joined Twitter last week over 100,000 followers elected to follow Bill in an 8 hour window. Imagine have a following of just 20,000 in lets say Sacramento, California. Your business is parked right in the middle of the city and you send a Tweet or message to your following. What would your promotion or special look like? Do you think that you could get your message across to your audience in a timely manner?
